Storm King School

The school was founded in 1867 by Rev. Louis P. Ledoux, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Over its long history, the school has changed several names. The very first is Cornwall Heights School, the modern name also did not appear immediately: until 1923, the school was called The Stone School.

Now her name is associated with the location near Mount Storm King, near the west coast of the Hudson. Despite the change of names, over all these years the school has not changed its basic principles: education is the most correct way for every person, character formation and education are inseparable, the school should help each student to form a healthy body, mind and spirit.

The curriculum at The Storm King School is designed in such a way as to ensure the comprehensive development of each child and to prepare him most productively for college and university.

The school is located in the Green Belt, 45 miles north of New York, on the west bank of the Hudson River. Located on the slopes of Storm King Mountain, it offers great views of the Shawangunk and Catskills mountains. The school campus is located within the boundaries of the town of Cornwall-on-Hudson (Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York), surrounded by the forests of the Black Rock Forest National Reserve, has a magnificent territory of 3600 acres. PROGRAM

Advanced Placement (AP)

University Preparation Program. Pupils study majors in the university program, which they are preparing to enter, and pass exams based on the results of the study. The AP program consists of subject area courses. Students select several subjects from the proposed areas for in-depth study.

Student support program

The school always goes towards students who require additional classes in order to better learn the material and adapt to the new environment. For these purposes, the Storm King has created the Academic Support Program. Each student receives individual support while working on a topic or subject in which he has “spaces”. Teachers of the program are professionals with extensive experience working with children who have particular perceptions of information or encounter learning difficulties that require additional attention.

Life on campus at The Storm King School is fully consistent with the school's holistic approach to child development. Residences provide a safe and comfortable stay. In addition, constantly being surrounded by peers from around the world, children learn respect, tolerance and expand their horizons, learning a lot of new and interesting things.

Students are under the constant supervision of adults. In residences, educators live with children. Each of the children has a mentor who monitors the academic success of the child, and also helps to solve the problem, gives advice. All teachers, educators and tutors working with children are experienced, highly qualified specialists who are responsible for their work.

This is a very small school, where each child is given sufficient attention for full education and comprehensive development. The main goal of The Storm King School is to develop a powerful sense of personality. In addition, they encourage children to be tolerant and loving of other nationalities, to show kindness and care for their neighbours.

The school is quite strong in various fields of art, especially in theatre and music. The guys themselves write poetry and music for them, as a result of which wonderful works of art are born, as I was lucky to see for myself. In their own film studio, the guys worked on the film, which will be presented at one of the festivals in New York, where stars such as Dustin Hoffman and Jack Nicholson will be members of the jury.

I can’t say that the school’s technical equipment is breath-taking, nevertheless, there is everything necessary for a high-quality educational process, and the entire set of necessary textbooks is replaced by iPad’s issued by the school for temporary use, on which educational programs with the necessary materials are installed.

In general, the school has a very warm, sincere atmosphere, ideal, in my opinion, for the first stage of the child’s adaptation to American life and the education system.
