Guardianship

Guardianship is a requirement which the vast majority of British Boarding schools insist on every international pupil to have.

The average cost of such service in Great Britain is between £900 per school term up to £5000 and more (!) per term (please note that the school year has 3 terms!)

Moreover, a deposit between £500 up to £2500 is charged.

Parents assume that if they pay £900 or even £2000 per semester, the guardian will regularly visit their child, take them out shopping, get them nasal drops at every sneeze and be ready to serve them 24/7.

Sad but true: it is not so.

The guardian, who has to be a British resident, visits the child at school once per semester, talks to them for around 10 minutes and leaves.

The child does not really understand the point of the conversation as they often hardly understand the language (if the child is beginning the studies and their language skills are not good enough).

One of the guardian’s responsibilities is to come and pick the child up in case of emergency, if, for example, they get expelled due to misbehaviour.

As a rule, that’s all the child may expect.
