Pupils enjoy a strong sense of freedom in the vast school grounds. They climb trees and build shelters with their friends. The school aims to remain small enough to support an individual approach to each child.

The main building was built in the 17th century, it created a cosy home environment of a country house. Maidwell Hall is a great place to grow and develop children's talents. The school is proud of its excellent academic performance, as well as the diverse development of students.

The school has about 120 students.

KEY FACTORS

  • Students show high academic results and enrol in the best high schools in the UK: Ampleforth, Eton, Harrow, Oundle, Queen Margaret’s York, Radley, Rugby, Shrewsbury, St. Edward’s Oxford, Stowe, Uppingham and others.
  • Small classes - maximum 15 people.
  • For children with mild dyslexia and dyspraxia, specialists conduct individual lessons. All lessons are adapted to the specific needs of students and allow them to better master the school curriculum.
  • The school minimizes the impact on children of the Internet, social networks and mobile phones: iPad is allowed only in the classroom and as part of the educational process, you can call home from landlines. The tradition of compulsory weekly letters home to parents has been preserved.
  • Children spend their free time running around with friends across a vast school territory, participating in one of the many activities and sports and reading. Parents note that their children "not only receive education, but also childhood."

EQUIPMENT

On the territory of the school are located: a scientific laboratory, an art studio, a darkroom, a library, fields for game sports, a sports complex, a swimming pool and much more. Near the school there is a lake and large spaces for games.

PROGRAM

Pupils are preparing to take the Common Entrance exam at the age of 13 and further enrol in high schools.

The following subjects are studied: art, Latin and classical civilizations, design, theatre, English, French, geography, history, information technology, mathematics, music, religious studies, biology, chemistry, physics.

The EAL department (English as a foreign language) conducts additional English lessons for students instead of Latin and French. Classes are held in groups or individually. All aspects of English are studied: from grammar and spelling to pronunciation and understanding.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Living in a residence on the school grounds, in one of 4 school houses. All houses are newly renovated, cosy and comfortable. The school tries to make the stay at school as enjoyable as possible, encourages children to bring their plush toys, photos and bedding from home.

Three meals a day in the school cafeteria plus three snacks during the day and at bedtime. The school has a strict nutritional policy with a focus on fresh and home-made products and dishes. Homemade yogurt, soups, breads and desserts are provided daily. Fresh fruits are always available.

SPORT

At Maidwell Hall, sports are an integral part of school life, where every child plays for an hour every day. Matches are held for all classes. For boys, the main team games are football, rugby, hockey and cricket. For girls – rounders, hockey and netball. You can also do tennis, athletics, swimming, running, squash. An impressive selection of other sports with great opportunities for competition: badminton, basketball, golf, water polo, sailing, horse riding, shooting.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

Every day, children spend time exploring the surrounding forest and park, spend a lot of time outdoors. The school has a large program of lectures from invited guests, which offers students the opportunity to expand their horizons.

Leadership training is a central part of learning. Children are engaged in orienteering, mountaineering, building a tourist camp, canoeing and mountain walks, there is the opportunity to join the annual expeditions.

During the last few weeks of schooling, children will have an amazing program - a week by the sea, outdoor survival classes, numerous all-day trips and adventure walks.

The school has great opportunities for music and theatre. Many concerts take place, the school choir performs at the Christmas service and sings in the local church for students and parents every Sunday. In addition to large concerts for performers, mini-performances are held at the school throughout the year. Two-thirds of schoolchildren play at least one musical instrument, and you can learn to play the game on almost any instrument.

The highlight of the fall semester is the acclaimed annual school production, which can compete with any preparatory or even high school in the country. The production is attended by the vast majority of students. For example, in 2017, 98% of students participated in the play “The Wizard of Oz”, they played on stage or were busy working on the technical part.

Children can take classes at LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Theatre Arts) and take exams (optional). This is a program for those who want to immerse themselves in the world of acting, learn to speak in verse and prose, strengthen confidence in their voice and increase their knowledge of literature, poetry and drama. Classes are conducted by an invited professional teacher.

An art studio is a fascinating place used for classes and extracurricular activities. Each project created by children is considered from the point of view of art theory. The training program includes drawing, painting, collage, ceramics, modelling and sculpture. Artistic trends are studied: impressionism, Fauvism, surrealism, cubism and abstract expressionism, as well as a number of techniques that encourage experimentation leading to the development of an individual style. The Internet is used to receive information, and the iPad is an essential tool for presentations related to the history of art movements.

Students in their free time can use the art studio for individual lessons, preparation for competitions and events. Potential scholarship holders can use the school’s capabilities unlimitedly to prepare their portfolios.

The school holds a number of competitions, including photography. Students' works are exhibited at and outside the school. One selected work of art created by students is auctioned annually to raise funds for a charity.
