St. Edmund's College is located on 16 hectares in the county of Hertfordshire in the city of Ware between London and Cambridge. The school is surrounded by magnificent parks! From the hill where the school is located, a wonderful view of the cathedral!

The school is attractive in that the number of students of one nationality is limited, which contributes to the most effective learning of the English language. In addition, in the summer months, a unique opportunity is offered to get acquainted with the living conditions in a traditional English boarding school.

Ancient majestic buildings and modern equipment of the college create an enabling environment for study and relaxation. Children are divided into groups in accordance with the level of knowledge of the English language and considering the age group.

Equipment

On the territory of the school are located: a gym, an indoor heated pool, 6 tennis courts and huge fields for games (football, basketball). There is also a theatre, a library and specialized classrooms for painting, music, photography, and cooking. There is a computer class.

PROGRAM

The goal of the summer program is to educate children and inspire them to further study at home.

On the first school day, students take tests in all language components: speaking, listening, reading and writing. In accordance with the test results, the children are divided into groups according to their level of English proficiency.

Global Skills in English

The program is designed to develop the social and intellectual development of children along with their knowledge of English. Every week, teachers plan their lessons ‘from scratch," and the lessons are thematically based on this week’s educational tour. For example, if the class is going to the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, then in the classroom, children can learn some of Shakespeare’s works or its impact on English.

Lessons take place in the morning. Only 3 lessons, each of which focuses on its topic.

The program includes:

  • Learning English as a second language along with other disciplines such as history and economics. A lesson may be devoted to the history of London, for example, with an overview of past tense verbs.
  • Language practice: conducting research and presentations.
  • Discussions and debates where, in addition to practice, expressions are studied for persuasion, criticism, agreement or disagreement.

English through other subjects

After lessons, children continue to learn the language through involvement in various fields of activity. It allows you to learn the language in practice, acquire a good vocabulary and excellent language skills.

The training takes place from 13:30 to 16:15 four times a week. The lesson lasts 2.5 hours with a break. For each week, children choose their own field of activity. Classes are small - a maximum of 14 people. You can choose from classes in the following sections:

  • Young pilots (13+), for extra charge. cost - £900
    Ideal for guys planning a career in aviation and even those brave enough to try something new. The course includes flying lessons, a trip to the Aviation Museum and a presentation from a commercial airline pilot.

  • Content creation (15+), for an additional fee. cost - £350
    A two-week program for an aspiring social media star. The kids will learn how to take photographs, edit videos, set up equipment for live broadcasts, and gain subscribers. The course includes a tour of London's Selfie Factory and a conversation with a social media expert or contemporary influencer.

  • Photography, extra. cost - £200
    Students will be provided with a professional grade DSLR camera and training from a professional photographer. The kids will be able to take home memory cards with their own photos. The course offers an introduction to photographic composition and technique. Children will learn photography in class and then put into practice what they have learned. The best photos will be shown to the whole school.

  • Golf, extra cost - £150
    Students will learn the fundamentals of the game at a local golf course. Over four days they will play under the expert guidance of a PGA golf professional.

  • Horse riding, for extra charge cost - £400
    The very popular course is held at a local equestrian center 15 minutes from the college and is suitable for all ages and skill levels - from beginners to experienced riders. Each lesson is one hour of horse riding and one hour of learning how to care for horses and manage a stable.

  • “Test drive” of the boarding school, for an additional fee. cost - £100
    Program for students planning to study in the UK. Children will attend trial lessons in academic subjects, go on a tour of the school and attend a question and answer session with the school's admissions team.

  • Preparation for Cambridge exams, at an additional cost. cost: £250 for 2 weeks without exam, £350 for 2 weeks with exam (only for training between 21 July and 3 August).
    Cambridge English qualifications are widely recognized as reliable evidence of English language proficiency. The school offers a one- to two-week preparatory course, after which students take the exam at a local testing center in Cambridge.

  • Preparation for the IELTS exam, for an additional fee. cost: £250 for 2 weeks without exam, £350 for 2 weeks with exam (only for training between 21 July and 3 August).
    The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an exam designed for those planning to attend university in an English-speaking country. On this course, children study and take an exam at a local testing center in Cambridge.

Accommodation and meals

Pupils live in a residence in the school in cosy double rooms. In one room live children of different nationalities. Boys and girls live separately. The residence has a lounge with a TV, DVD, a games room, a computer room, small kitchens where you can have a meal and tea. Bathrooms, toilets and telephones are on the floor. Sleeping rooms are cleaned every day. There is an adult staff on each floor who looks after the children.

Meals in a large school cafeteria 3 times a day as a buffet. Various foods are offered for breakfast: yogurts, fruits, cereals, eggs, bacon, mushrooms, croissants, tea and coffee. A hearty breakfast is a good tradition for a great start to the day. Lunch options are also available for lunch, including vegetarian options. The menu necessarily contains hot food. There is always a large selection of salads, fruit soups and desserts. A variety of menus is a key factor in school nutrition. Everyone will be able to choose what he wants. The residence on each floor has kitchens, so children can always have a bite to eat and drink tea.

During the excursions, lunch is served in the package: roll, drink, fresh fruit, dessert.

Sport

After classes and on weekends, students can engage in various sports. Badminton, basketball, volleyball, golf, cricket, football, squash, tennis, bowling, swimming. Off campus, the school offers bowling, rock climbing, ice skating, golf, and sailing classes.

ENTERTAINMENT ACTIVITIES

Quizzes, discos, barbecue, videos, talent shows, hobby groups are held.

EXCURSIONS

5 full day excursions for 3 weeks of stay. Examples of excursions: London, Cambridge, Leeds Castle, Canterbury, Hampton Court, Kew Gardens, Woburn Safari Park and much more. And also 1 visit to the theatre in London.
