The educational company Bede’s Summer School was founded in 1993 and organizes summer courses in the UK. The company has 7 centres where summer educational programs are held. Every year, children from 50 countries come here. According to EL Gazette, Bede’s Summer School is one of the best on the market. All company training centres have been accredited by the British Council.

Dicker Centre is located in the village of Upper Dicker in the heart of Sussex, in beautiful countryside, near the coastal resort of Eastbourne. The school is based on a former country estate with an area of ​​over 80 acres. Here there is an amazing sense of home comfort. London can be reached in 2 hours by car.

Summer courses are intended for young people who are seriously engaged in ballet, want to improve and reach a new level of mastery.

In summer courses, students will be able to:

  • Develop skills, technique and style in ballet and modern dance.
  • Strengthen self-confidence.
  • Improve your knowledge of English.
  • Make friends from all over the world and learn to better understand other cultures.
  • Get to know British culture.
  • Find inspiration and motivation for further training and improvement.

KEY FACTORS

  • A very rich program: English classes are held in the morning, and intensive dance classes in the afternoon.
  • A maximum of 250 children study at the same time. There are restrictions on representatives of each nationality.
  • In classes a maximum of 14 people.
  • Experience in teaching ballet is required for training on the program.

EQUIPMENT

On the school territory there are: tennis courts, a gym, a swimming pool, a gym, squash courts, playing fields, a drama theatre, dance studios, a small golf course, computer classes, art studios. There is WI-FI throughout the campus.

PROGRAM

The program includes 13.5 hours of English and 17 hours of dance per week.

English classes are available for students of all levels - from beginners to advanced (a total of 6 levels). On the first day, testing is conducted to identify the student in the appropriate group.

English lessons are held in the morning. The emphasis is on the development of communication skills and the ability to communicate in everyday situations. Reading, writing, listening and speaking are studied. Considerable attention is paid to the development of vocabulary, pronunciation and a deep understanding of English grammar.

Dancing classes are held from 12:00 to 17:15 (with breaks) and include:

  • Classical ballet techniques
  • Techniques of modern dance
  • Choreography

At the end of the course, a grand dance show will take place, where students will present their numbers to an audience.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Accommodation in a residence in rooms for 2-4 people. There are several single rooms. Boys and girls live separately. The bathroom is on the floor. Each house has a common recreation area. In each room, children of the same age and different nationalities live together. Children are supervised by mentors around the clock.

Three meals a day. In the morning and in the evening a light snack is offered (fruits, cakes, mini-sandwiches, juice, milk). The menu consists of both typical English and dishes from around the world. For lunch and dinner, two hot dishes and a salad bar are always offered. There is a vegetarian menu, as well as a separate menu for children with allergies. On the tour, all students receive a packed lunch.

ENTERTAINMENT ACTIVITIES

In the evenings, there are entertaining events that give children the opportunity to know each other better. Such informal communication is an excellent English training. Children will get acquainted with typical English activities and games.

EXCURSIONS

Excursions are an obligatory part of the program. Children will gain important cultural experiences and learn more about the UK. Excursions are an opportunity to feel the language in real life, in direct communication with the British.

On Wednesdays, after lunch, a half-day excursion takes place to local attractions: castles, parks and museums.

On Saturdays and Sundays, all-day excursions are available.

On Saturday, children go to London, where they visit cultural and historical places: the British Museum, Buckingham Palace, London Eye Ferris Wheel, London Zoo, Madame Tussauds Museum, National Gallery, Science Museum, Amusement Park, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey.

Sunday excursions are more relaxed and include visits to the nearest coastal cities: Brighton, Worthing, Eastbourne, Hastings. Here, children can stroll along the beach, dine in the park and go shopping.
