Hurtwood House

Hurtwood House opened in 1970 and is located in Dorking, Surrey, just a 45-minute drive from London.

In summer, the school runs courses for children. The guys have a great opportunity to spend their summer holidays in a pleasant creative atmosphere. Parents can be sure that the child is safe and interested in spending time with benefit.

Only 100 children attend school at the same time.

EQUIPMENT

Information equipment of the school is provided by the technical support centre. Classes and campus offices are equipped with the latest personal computers. The school has a film studio equipped with professional equipment, including 5 cameras and software for editing and editing footage. The Hurtwood House Music Centre includes four recording studios equipped with professional music technology.

Students have at their disposal modern scanners, cameras and other information equipment. They are also provided with professional software for creating and editing images and videos.

PROGRAM

English

Age: 11-17 years old.

The curriculum includes 15 hours of English per week. The lessons are very lively. All teachers approach the classes creatively and innovatively, use a special technique so that all students work in the lesson and are involved in the educational process.

In accordance with the level of the group, the teacher selects a special program for the development of oral and written English skills. Much attention is paid to grammar. To make classes more interesting, they can be held in a playful way. In the classroom, children also create their own projects - films, plays, photo diaries, songs, magazines.

Learning is not limited only to classroom audiences, children constantly communicate with each other outside the classroom, play, go on excursions, go shopping, read newspapers, magazines and books - all this allows a comprehensive mastery of the language and gives maximum practice. Children gain confidence in the spoken language, and learn to use English in everyday situations.

Acting

Dates: July 14–20, 2024.
Age: 14-19 years old.

An intensive weekly course is saturated with master classes and seminars and was created for children who are inspired by the stage and want to improve their acting skills. The course is taught by teachers - professional actors and directors. Studied acting, techniques for successful listening, playing in the cinema and theatre, voice, movement on stage, work with facial expressions, stage combat. At the end of the training, there will be a final presentation in which all the children participate and where they can demonstrate their progress.

Musical Theatre

Dates: July 21–27, 2024.
Age: 14-17 years old.

An intensive weekly course designed for young people who want to develop and improve their stage performance skills. Immersed in different styles of performance in a musical theatre. Learning is centred around three main aspects: acting, singing and dancing. We study acting, listening techniques, improvisation, voice control, group singing, choreography. The course is taught by professional directors and choreographers, including representatives from the London West End theatres. At the end of the training, there will be a performance with the participation of the guys.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Living in a residence in one of 5 houses, in comfortable rooms with all necessary furniture. In each house with children lives a mentor who closely monitors students.

Three meals a day, in a large school cafeteria. Food at the school is organized at a very good level. Students are offered a wide selection of dishes, including vegetarian. The menu always has fresh fruits and vegetables, good meat, cheeses, milk and salads. The menu is constantly changing so that students can taste various dishes of English and European cuisine.

SPORT

Students can enjoy a huge number of different sports for every taste: football, tennis, horse riding, basketball, volleyball, hockey, squash, laser war games, boating on the river, ice skating, dry skiing, karting, table tennis, swimming, bowling and more. A teacher works at the school, who organizes the camp’s sports program, holds competitions and can inspire students to take active sports.

ENTERTAINMENT ACTIVITIES

In the evenings, interesting entertaining events take place: watching movies, discos, sports games, intellectual games, barbecue and much more.

EXCURSIONS

Shopping trips to Guilford are regularly held. The highlight of the summer program are weekly excursions to London, which are included in the price of the course. Children can visit Madame Tussauds Museum, Natural History Museum, Covent Garden, Royal Academy, watch theatre performances in the West End and see many other famous places.
