Review of Queen Ethelburga’s College
I am in my 2nd year at Queen Ethelburga's College, this is my 13th year.I liked the school at first glance: it’s a huge area, you can immediately see that there are a lot of opportunities to do something here, a huge number of clubs. The level of teaching is very high and the living conditions are very good. Unfortunately, there is nothing to compare with other than a Russian regular school, but I think that in terms of living conditions, Queen Ethelburga's College will win.
To be honest, I would like to return to a Russian school for one simple reason: there are friends and parents there, but in all other respects the local school wins. Here you have been focusing for the last two years on exactly those items that you need. And this is much better than when in grades 10-11 in a Russian school we study 15 subjects, which is very inconvenient, in fact. And the level of teaching and equipment are, of course, better. In Russian schools we constantly have a shortage of some chemical reagents and so on, but here such a level of funding, so many conditions, are incomparable.
At the very beginning, I was afraid, to be honest, that my knowledge and level of English would not be enough, but this fear turned out to be in vain, because, as it happened, I chose scientific subjects, and many of the terms are simply consonant with Russian ones. As it turned out, the problem is in the subject itself, in that the level is much higher than in Russia, and it is very difficult to catch up. But it is possible if you try.
And the school helps when it arranges additional “clinics” - this is something like consultations with a teacher. That is, the school cannot be blamed for not doing anything; teachers really do everything they can to help. The main thing is not to spoil your relationship with them. But this is true everywhere.
By the end of the school year, you really start to miss home a lot. But, on the other hand, there are a lot of people here with whom you can communicate, there are many different circles. And if you find a company of interest, I think you won’t be lonely.
It’s difficult for me to compare teaching; of all the subjects here, I only studied chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics. But of all, the most interesting for me is biology. These are the most interesting practical exercises: up to the opening of pig lungs. Very interesting from the point of view of practice and science itself. In general, all the practical classes here are interesting. I would also note that math lessons are also very interesting if you are lucky with the teacher, and I was lucky with the teacher.
This is the second year I’ve been going to dances and I choose lyrical contemporary. There is an opportunity to participate in the annual production “Gym and dance” - this is dancing and gymnastics in one performance. The concert is given three times, the level of preparation for the school is impressive, it is very popular, beautiful and musical.
I have quite a lot of training; after school, dance training usually lasts for three hours. That year I also took the “cooking” subject; we prepared not just something simple, but soups, pasta and much more. Last year there was almost no free time, and when I had, I went to dances. Now there is more of it, again I dance, read a lot, correspondence with my parents takes a lot of time. Since we are preparing to enter university this year, I am doing research in the field of universities, reading scientific articles and news, because all this is necessary.
On weekends you can go to York and walk around the city. The school organizes trips to restaurants, to the skating rink, to the cinema and elsewhere. In general, there is always something to do and there is never much time to get bored. Only at the end of my studies.
The main advantages of the school: good equipment, good living conditions, good teaching staff, that is, quality of education. If you don't resist, they will teach you something here. You can fail something here only if you decide to do it yourself.
Classmates, in general, are quite simple and hardworking. People are positive, no one bullies anyone.
Teachers are different, but in general, I would like to note that no matter who you turn to and for what reason, they will always try to help or guide you.
