West Buckland School

The school was founded in 1858 and covers an area of ​​36 hectares in rural areas in the south-west of England, not far from the Atlantic coast. ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Accommodation in a residence on the school grounds. Pupils 11-16 years old live in one of two houses, one for boys, the second for girls. High school students are housed in a separate building in single rooms with private facilities. The houses have common rooms for relaxation and communication, a small kitchen and a dedicated area with computers. The theatre is very popular among students, it can be studied as part of the curriculum or in extracurricular time. A large number of students take individual and group lessons in speech and drama, which prepare them for the LAMDA exams (London Academy of Music and Theatre), as well as for participation in the North Devon Theatre Festival.

During the year, several performances are held with the participation of children, everyone can perform on stage in front of a large auditorium. Every two years, the school puts on a musical in a local theatre, which is created by the talented school actors, singers and musicians. The production invariably receives recognition from critics and viewers.

Music plays a huge role in the life of the West Buckland school. Music is available to everyone: from talented musicians who strive to make music their career, to novice enthusiasts who enjoy singing and playing. Children take part in various school groups and orchestras: jazz groups, several choirs, string orchestra and many others.

Individual music lessons are taught by a team of more than twenty invited teachers, many of whom are professional musicians themselves. Classes are held on all orchestral instruments (including harp), as well as on the piano, organ, percussion and guitar. The school has its own full-scale symphony orchestra, which is led by the director of the music department of the school. The orchestra gives four concerts a year and specializes in the romantic repertoire of the 20th century. The most talented and enthusiastic musicians are accepted into it.

Art classes are important for the development of students. The stunning building of the art school was opened in 2010, and its design was developed by specialists who fully understand the needs of artists in the 21st century. Here, students are engaged in painting, sculpture, printing, ceramics, photography (digital and traditional). The art school is open all day and on weekends.
