Stonar school is a small school that offers every student the widest range of opportunities. The school knows every student well; and they know her, which helps each of the students to advance in the academic and personal plan in order to achieve more than they consider possible.

The school was founded in 1895. Located in the vicinity of Atworth Village, Wiltshire County. The village is a five-minute walk from the school, and local buses run to the cities of Bath, Melksham and Chippenham. Stonar is easily accessible by rail. A trip from London from Paddington station to Bath Spa or to Chippenham Railway Station takes about 1.5 hours. Both stations are a 20-minute drive from the school.

A small number of students in classes provides an opportunity for team cohesion, individual support, achieving high results and many opportunities.

Stonar school is also the UK’s leading riding school. The school has an equestrian centre, and students have the opportunity to practice equestrian sports, regardless of their level. Students can keep their own horses in the centre. Stonar equestrian education is top notch and riding programs are integrated on a school day for beginner students.

Life at Stonar school is very active, and everyone has many opportunities for participation: the child will play in a team, perform on stage, following his special interests in a joint curriculum, and to a decisive extent the care of employees contributes to their academic performance.

The main building of the Stonar school is a monument of the Regency era. It is located on the territory of 32.5 hectares of parkland.

EQUIPMENT

The new classroom department, opened in the spring of 2017, housed the faculties of the humanities and language sciences. The new cedar building, Sarum, provides a modern and comfortable learning space. It replaces the older building, which will now be destroyed, and in its place will be built a new recreation area for high school students. Extensive investments in the reconstruction of the equestrian centre led to the creation of new stables, new barns, a forge and a barn.

PROGRAM

Prep School: 9-11 years old

It develops confident, curious and independent girls and boys who enjoy education and are well prepared for the next level of their school career.

The preparatory school has small classes, with experienced teachers who provide creative and imaginative learning, which ensures the involvement of children, motivation and the desire for learning. Some students exhibit obvious academic ability from an early age; others may need more support. The school helps every child to discover their abilities and develop confidence, as they have numerous capabilities within and outside the classroom. There is a vibrant learning atmosphere and a greater variety of opportunities for girls and boys.

Boys and girls are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning, behavior and progress. This helps them become more independent.

Parents are involved in educating their children every step of the way; progress is regularly and strictly reported, and student successes are recognized and celebrated. As children learn and grow up in a safe and well-mannered environment, they develop a caring attitude towards each other, towards their school and the world around them.

Stonar Prep School is accredited by the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS).

Senior School: 11-18 years old

Stonar students are active, ambitious and energetic - they include a lot in their difficult days. They do more, and better than they ever thought possible.

For school, each student is individual. The school knows them better than they know about themselves: since this is the work of the school. Outstanding pastoral care and an enabling environment help them find and develop their own individual talents.

Their achievements shine - in academic success, horseback riding and sports, performance and art, and common interests. They can build strong relationships, both personal and professional, which are vital to a successful career. And they don't just follow the beaten path: Stonar students strive for achievement, not conformity.

Sixth Form: Six to eighteen

“By the time they leave school, students demonstrate an extremely high level of personal development: mature, knowledgeable, independent and compassionate citizens who are ready to contribute to society as a whole, and especially to their universities, colleges and future jobs.”

ACCOMMODATION

Instead of replacing the house, the boarding school provides the life and education of the child, greatly improving relations with family and friends, and providing many additional opportunities for the child to really get the most out of their school life.

Each house has its own personality, but they all share a family atmosphere. Full board is popular, but a flexible approach is also possible.

Hart House is a converted farmhouse, an old building overlooking the surrounding countryside. It is located separately from the main school campus, but no more than 3 minute’s walk. About 35 students aged 7 to 11 years live in it, all rooms are double. The rooms have recently been completely renovated and combine modern amenities with some of the subtleties and features of an old building.

There is a large but cosy lounge, a fully equipped and renovated kitchen and a large garden, which is especially appreciated in the summer, when students play outdoor games, have a barbecue or just spend time outdoors. Pupils, depending on their age, take on various responsibilities at the hostel. They can decorate their rooms with photographs and posters so that the guesthouse is their second home.

Ganbrook House, a girls' home, is located on the upper floors of the main school building, which used to be the home of Lady Fuller's widow. Currently, it houses about 35 students.

The atmosphere at Ganbrook is happy and relaxed, and all students contribute in one way or another to creating a family atmosphere in the home. A Saturday walk is popular when all students get together to watch TV in the common room for pizza or Chinese food. All Ganbrook students provide significant support to the home, and contribute to a friendly, sociable atmosphere.

Ganbrook House definitely has its own distinctive spirit, where all students feel welcome, as well as at home and part of the community.

York (Sixth Form) - designed to provide pre-university education to students of the Sixth Form of Stonar school. In York, students are encouraged to be independent and take on greater responsibility for organizing their time for study, sport, or socializing.

York is home to up to 30 students at a time. This is a modern building with a large, cosy shared room, kitchen, laundry room, large study area / work room and conservatory. The rooms are a combination of single and double bedrooms.

SPORT

Sports in high school will include football, hockey and cricket, with a wide range of clubs and events every period, including swimming, athletics and horse riding. Riding has been a key feature of the school for several decades. Pupils from the age of 5 can bring their pony or horse to school.

Students can take a horse or pony from the school as if they were their own. The student is then responsible for the complete care of the horse / pony, including feeding, walking in the morning and evening and, if necessary, observation. The student can ride horses daily and compete in the Stonar Equestrian Centre competitions. They can also compete in external competitions.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

School staff not only teaches: they teach. Students truly enjoy a mixture of academic challenges, support and inspiration. The school develops skills - problem solving, teamwork, leadership - young people will deal with the future, where the only constant is change.

An exciting range of evening and weekend events with choice and variety ensures the satisfaction of the existing interests of students, while everyone is encouraged to try all new things. As part of a multicultural society with an international factor, students from all over the world will be friends, developing respect and understanding of different cultures and points of view.

Also, at the Stonar school there is the Stonar Club for children. Your children will have fun outdoors and indoors in any weather. A varied program of events includes arts and crafts, cooking, drama, forestry, games, music, sports, water games and much more.
