Taunton School

Taunton School is a traditional British private school located near the town of Taunton, in the south-west of England. The school was founded in 1847. This is one of the most prestigious schools in England. And also, one of the first British schools to switch to coeducation in 1973.

After graduation, students enter the country's best universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

The school pays great attention to the education of a free and responsible person, arming young people with vital skills that will help them live and work in the 21st century. Children are taught independence, self-confidence, and the ability to cope with difficult tasks. EQUIPMENT

The historic buildings of the school are complemented by modern buildings. The school has a magnificent art centre, a very beautiful music school, its own theatre with 250 seats, a library. Taunton School has an outstanding academic department with the most advanced classroom and practice equipment located in a beautiful building.

The sports equipment is impressive: 3 gyms, 25 all-weather tennis courts, a basketball court, 2 volleyball courts, 7 netball courts, a climbing wall, rugby and hockey fields, 2 indoor soccer fields and 4 cricket fields. The school has 2 indoor pools and a fully equipped gym.

PROGRAM

GCSE

The secondary school program for a certificate of secondary education (General Certificate of Secondary Education). To enter the next level of secondary school (A-level) or the international baccalaureate program (IB diploma) in a prestigious school, you need to pass 5 exams and get a mark of C or higher.

A-level

A pre-university 2-year program aimed at preparing and passing exams in a number of disciplines and obtaining a certificate of "advanced" level Advanced Level General Certificate of Education. In the first year of study (AS-level), students’ study 4-5 subjects, in the second - 3-4.

IB

The international baccalaureate program, in which students choose 6 subjects and 3 of them study at a standard level and 3 at a higher level. And they also fulfil 3 mandatory blocks of IB (the course of the theory of knowledge, writing essays and events in the fields of Creativity, Action and Service).

International students can be trained at the Taunton International Education Centre. This training centre, located on the school grounds, was founded in 1996 to provide intensive training for foreign students who are planning their further education at a British school.

International Middle School (8-14 years)

The academic program includes intensive specialized training at the international centre. The program is for children who need in-depth preparation before starting to study in British schools. Children undergo intensive training in the English language and in parallel to such important subjects as mathematics, sciences (chemistry, physics, biology), computer science, visual arts, history, music, sports, theatre.

Such training can last from one semester to the academic year so that students receive a sufficient amount of necessary skills and knowledge and can join the main training programs at Taunton School or another school in the UK.

Children live in a mansion with a vast garden, more like a private cosy house than a school. Here live 40 children who are cared for as their own. The house belongs to the school and is completely renovated. The rooms are very beautiful, with colourful linens pleasing to the eye. Older children provide assistance and support to younger children. The employees live together with the children and make every effort so that the children get involved as soon as possible, establish friendships with others, develop social skills and stop boredom.

Taunton School International (14-18 years old)

Foreign students aged 14-16 can enter the Taunton International School, completing a pre-IB course or a 1-year (very intensive) or two-year GCSE program, which British students usually master in 2 years.

The programs are being studied:

Intense GCSE

A 1-year and 2-year course for students aged 14-16 years, involves studying up to 8 general subjects twice as fast as a regular school course. This course is the best option for preparing for training at the pre-university programs of the Sixth Form High School for children who are fairly confident in English.

Pre-IB

A preparatory course for students aged 14-16 who plan to choose an international qualification as a pre-university program - an international baccalaureate diploma.

ACCOMMODATION

The school has four residences - three for boys and one for girls. Boys under 16 live in rooms of 3-4 people, students aged 16 years - 1-2 people in a room, and in the graduation class, each student lives in a separate room.

Girls under 15 live 3-4 people in a room, at 16 years old - 1-2 people in a room, 17-18 years old - in separate rooms. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped.

SPORT

Sport is an integral part of school life. The school supports each student in the desire to develop physical, it does not matter if the students compete in national competitions, or is just starting to learn swimming.

The school has close ties with many local sports clubs, whose coaches are actively involved in specialized programs for elite players of the school. Students who demonstrate talent and the ability to play at a high level can undergo special training sports programs that are organized in addition to academic studies.

The guys have the opportunity to practice swimming, football, basketball, badminton, tennis, aerobics, yoga, martial arts, rock climbing and other sports. Girls and boys constantly perform at various competitions.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

Taunton School offers for all its students the widest selection of various extra-curricular activities, such as music, fencing, golf and horse riding. Pupils who play musical instruments can take individual lessons in music, and also take part in various orchestras, sing in a choir and participate in one of many school productions.

Guided tours are held on weekends. This allows them to prepare for subsequent studies in other schools and universities, and also gives the opportunity to make friends with British children.
