Impressions from a school visit Natasha Strein

Natasha StreinNatasha Strein
Founder of ‘’Paradise’’

The irony of fate: in this American school you feel like in good old England! A tiny wooden door leads to the reception, and everything is small and fabulous: wooden curved beams, rugs, flowers ... more than 20 buildings of English antiquity are crowded on 20 hectares.

And not a trace of the raggedness typical of the local schools: everything is gorgeous! And the landscape design, striking in the eyes with lush green grass and red bushes of geraniums, and the main building of the former manor house, and paths, and a grandiose cosy library, and a gym – like in any five-star hotels, and a spacious well-groomed theatre ... wherever the foot of a man (me) has stepped, beauty awaits her, which, as you know, will save the world.

Frankly: such a magnificent unity of interiors and exteriors is a rarity in foggy Albion! The school is simply amazing outwardly. During the year, Tasis operates as an American boarding school, located in Surrey, 40 minutes from London. More than 50% of the pupils are Americans, the rest are foreigners.

On the campus gate there is a security guard, you need to present your passport, stand and wait, entrance to the territory is only allowed when being accompanied, and you can’t take any photos!

In addition to beauty, the most unique in TASIS is a summer school. One of the most wonderful in the UK. A maximum of 10 speakers of the same language are accepted for 200 places. Quite a rare phenomenon: basically, there is no quota anywhere, and in the best schools - 20%.

Every day for breakfast all sorts of pancakes with maple syrup, Eggs, waffles - the American version. Two excursions and 1 shopping tour per week. It turns out to be busy 29 hours a week! And also - 5-6 hours of homework.

The courses are not just English, although there are some. Diversity and level are striking: a 6-week intensive course of geometry - serious lessons at a fairly fast pace. International business: here they teach how to start their start up, and everyone starts it right here! Leadership and debate - how often lack of self-confidence, and how important it is to learn how to speak to the audience and encourage the team to accomplish! In this course, children will be taught the tone of speech, body language, eye contact, etc.

There are robotics, and textiles (sewing and fashion), and graphic design. There is a course to improve written English (foreigners so often miss it), and film making. You can create your own da Vinci code and learn coding theory. Engage in visual arts and learn the basics of sketching, pencil drawing and painting. Learn what skills are needed to use computer technology in design, photography and graphic projects.

And for kids - a course for 10-12 years is called "Royal Kids", no more, no less - a unique course is offered: "Reader's Adventures, Discovering the Earth and Leadership." Here, and reading exciting books, and the study of volcanoes, tsunamis, storms, and team games ... There are many more interesting things! This is the highest level, only for demanding customers.
