Sedbergh School

The British boarding school Sedbergh School was founded in 1525. Located in the small vibrant city of Sedbergh between the two most visited national parks in Europe - Lake District and Yorkshire Valleys. The journey to London takes just over three hours by train. From Liverpool or Manchester Airport, you can get to school in an hour and a half.

In the summer, the school runs an exciting program for young people. English lessons, excursions, sports, a rich entertainment program - the guys will feel the real taste of a traditional British guesthouse. In summer, the same staff who work with school students during school hours work at the school.

KEY FACTORS

• The camp has a quota of 20% for each nationality, so that children can communicate with each other in English as much as possible.
• In the classes there is a maximum of 15 people, and most often even less.
• Location in a very beautiful and absolutely safe countryside.
• A summer school runs on the campus of Sedbergh Preparatory School, a 15-minute drive from the main school building, in the small village of Casterton.

EQUIPMENT

The school has excellent equipment: 6 fully equipped scientific laboratories, a culinary department with equipped workplaces, 2 modern computer classes with iPad tablets and computers.

The school has a separate music block with rehearsal rooms. In each house where students live, there are areas with a piano for musical practice.

The art department of the school offers the most modern equipment for creative work: a 3D printer, a laser cutter, a room for developing photos, a pottery workshop, special classes with computers and professional software for 3D modelling and graphic design.

The school has chic sports equipment: a riding centre, a large sports field with artificial turf, rugby fields, netball and tennis courts with lighting, an 18-meter heated pool with anti-slip floor, a gym, cricket fields, a bowling area, sports pavilion with locker rooms, a shower and an auditorium.

PROGRAM

The program includes 22 hours of English classes per week. On the first day, children write a test, the results of which are determined in a group with an appropriate level of knowledge of the language. Classes are taught by qualified and experienced teachers who use various teaching methods. Each week is dedicated to a specific topic, which is studied both in the classroom and outside it, for example, on excursions, as a result of which the children become more familiar with British culture.

The school offers the following courses:

• English + active classes. Arts & Crafts, Badminton, Basketball, Ceramics, Cooking, Cricket, Dance, Fencing, Theatre, Horse Riding, Jewelry Making, Sailing and more.
• English + outdoor adventure. Kayaking, orienteering, mountain biking, survival skills, rafting, rock climbing, cave trips.
• English + football (for children 12-16 years old).
• Leadership and Academy of International Relations (for children aged 14-16).

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Living in a residence, boys and girls are located in different houses. From 2 to 4 people live in the rooms, representatives of different nationalities always live together. Each house has a common lounge with games, a TV and WI-FI. Each house is looked after by the mentors who live here in the house. It is they who create a cosy family atmosphere for children.

Three meals a day. For lunch and dinner, there is always a large selection of hot dishes, a salad bar and a separate vegetarian menu. Fruits are always freely available. In the evening, children gather in houses, drink hot chocolate and discuss the events of the past day.

SPORT AND ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

Every day, students are offered 5-6 sports and activities so that everyone can try as many different activities as possible.

Two key values of a British boarding school are leadership and teamwork. Therefore, two days a week are devoted to the development of these skills. Children take part in activities such as cooking, making films and singing. These activities develop and strengthen teamwork, communication, and negotiation skills. They also provide another opportunity to make friends and improve conversational English.

ENTERTAINMENT ACTIVITIES

In the evenings, an entertainment program is held in which all children participate. This is an opportunity to relax and socialize with friends in an informal, fun atmosphere.

EXCURSIONS

The program includes 2 full-day excursions per week, on Thursdays and Sundays.

On Thursdays, children will visit the famous British cities and learn more about British culture:

Chester: Visit the zoo, which hosts more than 500 species of rare exotic animals, shopping at Cheshire Oaks.

York: visit the York Minster Cathedral - the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, visit the famous York dungeons with more than two thousand years of history.

Edinburgh: a tour of the capital of Scotland with visits to castles, as well as shopping.

Liverpool: Visit to the Beatles Museum.

On Sundays, excursions take place to local attractions and include activities such as sailing and canoeing.
