Success story of Artem Burtsev

Artem Burtsev was the first child whom the Paradise company sent to England in 1997 for the Foundation program, preparing for university entrance. To Artyom’s amazement, he suddenly found himself in a team consisting of 80% Russians, mostly Muscovites, who were sent the annual budget of a small country as pocket money. Eh, Fat times of petrodollar showers!

Artem

The boy from Siberia, who ended up in Brighton, was wildly delighted, but he could not learn English. When the turn came to choose a university, Artem happily grabbed Sheffield. For the simple reason that only two Russians studied there. And things went well. Artem entered marketing and is now working in his specialty. He is a happy man who enjoys his work. He has a lot of projects, ideas and trips.

Artyom is 39, married, with two small children: Martha is 3  and Miron is almost 5. He works for the German company Knauf, as director Marketing, responsible for the region from Mongolia to Finland.

“I have enough for bread and butter and even caviar,” Artem smiles. “Education in England marked the beginning of my success.” Life has thrown him to different places. He began his career at the KrasAir airline, which was then making waves throughout Russia. The personnel officer, registering Artem, in the “higher education” column Without further ado, she slyly put a dash through. The University of Sheffield, a respected name in Europe, was not on the Russian lists!!!

Now, fortunately, it is included in the list of foreign universities accredited in the Russian Federation. Lucky Sheffield.

Artem didn’t want to stay in England: “Not my country,” he says, although he recalls his cheerful student years with nostalgia. It is almost impossible to get a job: the competition is wild even among your own people, for any place of money it is a life-or-death struggle. If you are a foreigner, you must be cooler than the coolest locals.

But you don’t have to stay on the foggy island!  You can, in the traditions of Peter I, return home with the acquired skills. After working in a number of large companies, Artem settled in Moscow.

«The main thing in English education is not knowledge. They are secondary. The main thing is the way of thinking. If you want to fill your child’s head with a huge amount of knowledge, send him to a Russian university. People come to England for a worldview. For the breadth of views. There is no one right decision, but there is a whole range of options, and  all the right ones - that’s what they preach here.

For three years we were tirelessly taught one thing: the most important thing for a marketer is to  get out of business and look at it through the eyes of the client. And then, they told us, your plans will be fulfilled and your profits will grow. And that’s exactly what they taught us.

Russian universities (and schools) provide knowledge. In English it’s a way of thinking.”

Artem

«I watch children living in closed communities in Moscow. They are protected and looked after. They grow in greenhouse conditions, divorced from reality. Studying in England gives you independence. Teaches how to conduct everyday life, develops responsibility, including financial responsibility. I often went beyond the pocket money my parents allocated to me, I had to get out: I worked in a restaurant, at a stadium, in a pub.. I began to be responsible for my own life.”

The broader the worldview, the easier it is to live, Artem believes. He told how, having learned about the gathering of his classmates, he flew to his native Krasnoyarsk for this event. I note that he graduated from the most trump school at that time, where the children of the administration went. Classmates were amazed that Artem flew in from Moscow on purpose, whereas in England such gatherings from all over the world are considered commonplace.

Artem

«Russians are afraid of people, afraid of change and non-standard actions, afraid to go beyond their tube vision. And even now I’m ready to go to Africa without knowing the language. No restrictions, no fear."

Artem's parents are people with progressive views. His older sister studied in Switzerland, continuedLives education in Chicago, where he eventually settled, starting a family. Parents are happy! They did everything right.
