Westbourne House School is a preparatory school for boys and girls, was founded in 1907. The school is located on 40 hectares of parkland in Chichester, between the sunny South Downs National Park and the south coast. Nearby is the beautiful Chichester Cathedral and the famous Goodwood Estate, which hosts world-famous equestrian and car racing competitions.

Westbourne House is distinguished by both its academic achievements and the ability to comprehensively support the child as he grows up. Children have a lot of free time, they choose to be active, run through the forest and build shelters or play games. One of the school’s principals called it a “little oasis of learning”, and to this day this special atmosphere is preserved in the school.

PROGRAM

Experienced teachers work at the school who share their passion for the subject with students. Classes are small, teachers carefully monitor the progress of each child and are ready to provide additional support where necessary.

Children study the following subjects: English, French, Latin, classical civilizations, geography, history, information technology, mathematics, religious studies, biology, chemistry, physics.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Accommodation in a residence on the school grounds. At Westbourne House, they strive to create a sense of home for all students. Life at school gives children the opportunity to make the most of every day, as well as relax with friends. The school has 7 houses for living, each with 5 to 25 children of the same age.

All houses are newly renovated, the rooms are bright and airy. There are common rooms where children can spend time together, chat, relax and have a bite in the evening.

Each house is followed by a married couple who helps create a cosy, warm atmosphere, and in partnership with teachers takes care of the well-being of each child, ensuring that the children are happy and healthy.

SPORT

Sport in school plays an important role. The school has created an environment in which sport is accessible to everyone, and each child can fully reach their potential. Excellent professional coaches work here, who teach the guys not only to win, but also to play honestly, respect opponents and work in a team.

Many of the students receive sports scholarships, as well as successfully perform at the local, national and international levels.

The school organizes sports tours that are of great benefit in terms of skills and experience of the game, as well as special cultural experiences. Every year, children travel to Barcelona, ​​the Netherlands, South Africa and other countries, depending on the preferences of the group.

Children play football, netball, hockey and cricket. They can go kayaking and canoeing in the pool and on the lake. There are extra-curricular clubs after school, including ballet, judo, fencing, gymnastics, golf, athletics, tennis, swimming, modern and street dances.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

After school, children can take part in various activities and make full use of the school grounds. Activities range from art classes, cooking and air rifle shooting, as well as spontaneous entertainment and games with friends. Visits to bowling, a cinema, a trampoline park and, in summer, a beach are organized.

One of the favourite activities of children is the survival course in the style of Bear Grylls. Children learn techniques such as making a fire, cooking, finding trails, and setting up tents. Classes are held within the school forest.

Art and technological design are important subjects that affect all aspects of school life. Studying the visual world both physically and culturally helps children understand the world and their place in it.

Art gives children the opportunity for creative expression and self-discovery. It enhances fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, develops problem-solving skills, comprehensive analysis and critical thinking skills. Many materials and techniques are being studied: painting, printing, sculpture, textiles, ceramics and others. There is a double art lesson once a week and a double technological design lesson. Children can also come to art schools in their free time.

Pupils take advantage of an incredible range of possibilities to create theatrical productions. Drama skills are manifested in many areas of school life, helping children gain self-confidence. The weekly drama lessons study theatrical works, genres and performances. Pupils attend performances in the London West End and regularly attend the Chichester Festival Theatre, one of Britain's flagship theatres.

Students put on full-fledged costumed performances, and working behind the scenes provides good training for leaders. The complex organization of the performance gives the children fantastic organizational skills.

A music school is a special place. The “music for all” philosophy ensures that every child has the opportunity to develop musical abilities. 75% of children learn to play at least one instrument, and many learn two or more. All orchestral instruments are offered, as well as pianos, drums, guitar (classical and rock) and singing. Regular concerts give children the opportunity to show their talents. The school has two orchestras, three choirs, chamber ensembles.

The school has 4 music teachers - experts in their field. More than 20 teachers come to school to conduct individual lessons, some of them are professional performers.
