St. Leonard’s School was founded in 1877. The school is located in the beautiful old Scottish city of St. Andrews, located on the shores of the North Sea. The city has the glory of the world capital of aristocratic golf. St Andrews is also known for its university, Scotland's oldest third “age” after Oxford and Cambridge throughout the UK.

Thanks to the good academic success of its students, St. Leonard’s firmly holds traditionally high positions in national rankings. Here you can study under the traditional British private schools’ program, as well as under the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.

EQUIPMENT

Despite the fact that the school building is historical, the facilities and equipment are the most modern. The school has scientific and computer laboratories, an art school and a theatre studio, classrooms, a gym, squash courts, a 25-meter indoor pool, and numerous sports fields. A horse riding centre is located 10 minutes from the school, where students can practice.

The music school has a concert hall, 9 auditoriums for rehearsals, two large classrooms for classes, computers with the latest software for composing art classes.

Here is a gorgeous library, the historical building of which stands separately from the school. The library was opened in 1926 and today it offers a huge number of books, print publications and electronic resources in all areas. All students have access to the electronic catalogue through a special site, and can use the library's rich resources.

In St. Leonards School is a magnificent dining room, which is the holder of a special award for its contribution to the healthy nutrition of students.

PROGRAM

GCSE

Two-year program. Pupils choose from 6 to 12 subjects for which they will pass the GCSE exams (to obtain a certificate of general secondary education).

Pre-IB

The course is aimed at foreign students who wish to study under the IB program, but so far not having sufficient training. Duration of the course is 1 year. Education will allow students to obtain sufficient knowledge of subjects and develop the qualities necessary for training in the IB program.

Pre-IB Course

One-year course to prepare students for training in the IB program. In addition to academic subjects, foreign students study English as a foreign language.

IB Diploma
St Leonards is the only school in Scotland where in high school 100% of students are enrolled in the IB program. This is an international baccalaureate program in which students choose 6 subjects, 3 of which study at a standard level and 3 at an advanced level. In addition to the program, there are 3 mandatory blocks of IB: the course of the theory of knowledge, writing an extended essay and the course "Creativity, activity and mutual assistance."

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Living in a residence on the school grounds in one of 3 houses. In total, about 130 students live on the terms of the boarding house. The houses have a very friendly and safe atmosphere, which allows you to fully experience life in a boarding school. It is here that children make friends for life. Each house has its own special character, where students created the atmosphere of a home away from home. Mentors who look after children live here.

Each residence has study rooms, common lounges, a kitchen where you can prepare food and drinks, a computer class and games rooms. On the territory of the residences WI-FI is available. Many rooms offer magnificent views of the sea and mountains.

The school canteen and school team received a special award for their contribution to healthy eating from the Scottish Consumer Association. Children have a unique opportunity to eat in one of the most titled school canteens.

SPORT

Sports activities are available to students 7 days a week. The school seeks to instil in children a love of sport, which will remain with them for life. Classes are available both as part of the curriculum and as additional interest classes. You can do rugby, lacrosse, hockey, tennis, cricket, football, swimming, athletics. Sports activities are not limited to school walls. The magnificent environment allows students to engage in many other sports: kayaking, falconry and golf.

At school, you can engage in horse riding at a serious professional level. Classes are held after classes and on weekends and are available for students of different levels of training. An individual program is compiled for each student.

Golf

Pupils of the school have a unique opportunity to learn to play golf in one of the most revered places - St. Petersburg University Golf Academy Andrews. Classes are available for students of different levels of training. Here, novice players are helped to develop their abilities and become real professionals. Tournaments are held regularly between schools where students represent St. Leonards School in competitions.

The most talented players are invited to a special golf program. This program is for the most capable students who want to practice golf at a high level and realize their potential. Classes are held in three different groups - depending on age. An individual program is compiled for each student, considering its features and level of play. Classes are taught by the trainer of the famous Professional Golf Association (PGA).

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

Music lessons are held both as part of the curriculum, and as optional classes. You can do it daily. About 250 individual music lessons, rehearsals and concerts take place throughout the day. At school, you can take part in numerous groups, sing in a choir, play in an orchestra. During the academic year, up to 35 student reporting concerts are held.

At school, great things are possible for creative expression - art classes are held both within the curriculum and as additional classes. On Sundays, an art club meeting takes place. 2 times a year exhibition of artworks of students are organized.

Pupils St. Leonards School take an active part in the school theatre. Twice a year, large theatrical productions take place in a professional theatre. This is a great opportunity to feel like real actors.
