Richard Huish College was founded in the 18th century as a high school for boys, and since 1979, the college has been preparing for university entrance.

Located in Taunton, the main town of Somerset County. Taunton is one of the most beautiful cities in Great Britain, the centre of tourism and recreation, an excellent place for walking and cycling. The college is located in beautiful parkland, 10 minutes' walk from the city centre and two hours from London.

Richard Huish College is one of the top preparatory colleges in the UK, ranking in the top 5% of colleges in the country. Active and ambitious young people are accepted here, who are serious about further education in universities.

EQUIPMENT

The art department of the college occupies three large studios and is superbly equipped for drawing, painting, photography, photo printing, textiles, and 3D graphics. There is a photo studio with professional lighting, a special room for developing and printing photographs, and a large printing press. Students have Mac computers at their disposal for digital photography.

The college has a theatre and rehearsal studios. There are excellent sports facilities: fields for practicing various sports, tennis and basketball courts, a swimming pool.

The music department is represented by three classrooms for classes, as well as rooms for rehearsals. The equipment has recently been updated to include two large professional pianos: the Yamaha U1s and the Yamaha C3. For music lessons, there is a recording studio, a technology room with Mac computers and music processing software.

The college has an Arthur Clarke Learning Centre where students can use the resources and equipment of the college and have 24/7 access to online resources. You can rent books, films, magazines, as well as any audio-visual equipment such as cameras, cameras and laptops. There are 50 computers for comfortable work, an area for group studies and a special quiet area where no one will interfere with doing their own thing in a relaxed atmosphere.

PROGRAM

A-level

A pre-university two-year program aimed at preparing and passing exams in a number of disciplines and obtaining a certificate of the "advanced" level Advanced Level General Certificate of Education.

In the first year of study (AS-level) 4-5 subjects are studied, in the second year of study - 3-4 subjects. The college offers a huge number of subjects for study in the A-level program. Subjects are selected based on the desired university and specialty for admission.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation in the new Oak House residence (opened 2017). It is located within walking distance from the school. Students live in single and double rooms with private facilities and a private bathroom.

SPORT

Sports play a significant role in the lives of students. Richard Huish College is one of the nation's leading preparatory colleges for sports. Every year, college students achieve success and win prizes in team and individual competitions. In 2014, students won a record 57 medals in the competition.

In college, you can go in for sports at a professional level and take part in competitions, or you can just practice for your own pleasure as a hobby. It employs qualified coaches in all sports, whose professionalism, enthusiasm and dedication make the sports training of the student’s top-notch.

The elite college sports that have the most serious training are football, rugby, basketball and cricket. Also offered: athletics, golf, fitness, Zumba, dance, tennis, squash, martial arts, badminton, volleyball, table tennis, frisbee and much more.

ADDITIONAL LESSONS

In addition to the educational program, the college offers rich opportunities for personal and creative development. There are: creative writing club, reading club, debating club, public speaking, chess, Japanese, French literature club, environmental group and much more.

Students can play in the theatre and take part in two large theatrical performances per year. Professional directors and choreographers work on the performances. You can play, sing or dance on stage, as well as work on a production outside of the stage: stage light and sound, design costumes and much more. Playing in the theatre is open to all students, from beginners to experienced students.

The college has great opportunities for music lessons: they, like playing in the theatre, are available to absolutely all students, of any level of training. The choice of musical activities is huge: symphony and chamber orchestra, jazz, wind, string ensembles, folk bands, rock bands and much more. Reporting concerts are held regularly. There is a possibility of learning to play musical instruments.
